DON’T PIE TO ME! THAT’S NACHO CHEESE! ‘Train Wreck Nachos’ and a homemade sausage pizza from The Junction over in Elk Mound.

For just over a year now, the Village of Elk Mound has played home to a hidden gem of a pizza joint. Featuring nostalgic décor and homemade pies with unique namesakes, The Junction is a nice stop if you wanna ride the pizza train.

As a quintessential pizza joint, The Junction ensures all sauces are homemade from spices ground in-house, all crusts are handmade to order, and all the cheese is hand shredded. This makes it nearly impossible to make a bad decision regarding which pizza to order. 

A personal favorite is their namesake pie, “The Junction.” It’s constructed out of thousand island dressing, lettuce, pickles, and hamburger, and if it sounds more like a burger than a pizza, that’s because the cooks intended to taste that way. Although if you’re feeling more in the mood for a traditional burger, they have those, too, along with plenty of appetizers, salads, and even some ice cream for those with a sweet tooth. 

Another personal recommendation lies with the “Garbage Pizza,” a concoction made by throwing every imaginable topping onto a crust and praying it stays put until you are able to transfer a slice into your mouth. This is perfect after a hard day’s work, or if you’re feeling in need of some guilty pleasure gluttony. 

You’ll feel instantly at home within the quaint, cozy atmosphere and good company that are always present at The Junction. Retro tin signs and neon lights give an old train station feel that opens up the small space into an area for the community to gather. 

This is also a restaurant that loves to give back to that community, through events like “Slice of Hope” by selling cupcakes for breast cancer research or “Cookies for Josie,” a fundraiser for a local citizen with an inoperable tumor. All the funds raised in the latter program are being matched by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and donated to this local family going through hardship. 

Located smack dab in the middle of Elk Mound, visitors will have no trouble finding their way to where the train tracks meet. Stop on in, and you’ll see firsthand what small town hospitality looks like.
