Diary-Style Exhibition Adorns Library Walls

Trevor Kupfer |

To take in the new art exhibition at LE Phillips Memorial Public Library, called Connect/Disconnect, is to have a glimpse into a fractured diary. Each piece has the consistent outline of two opened pages, but each is distinct in its content and the method employed to create it. Made by Danica Oudeans, an art professor at UW-Barron County, the pieces are a contract between calm clarity (clear handwriting on perfect stock) and tortured disarray (scribbles on punctured and stressed paper), and has the kind of overall shape and color consistency you’d see in de stijl. Ms. Oudeans’ artist statements say the series is a reflection on her struggle with identity and social expectations. The show will remain on display throughout the library until May 29.
