Another Gouda Showing for Cheesemaker Marieke

V1 Staff |

The team of cheesemakers at Marieke Gouda in Thorp has collected a few more honors for its remarkable cheeses, winning four awards at the American Cheese Society Conference (a.k.a. the “Oscars of cheese”), held July 31-Aug. 2 in Providence, Rhode Island. Three Marieke Gouda varieties – Foenegreek, Cumin, and Jalapeño, respectively – took the first, second, and third spots in the International Style with Flavor Added category. In addition, Marieke’s 9-12 month Aged Gouda won second place in the Farmstead category. In recent years Marieke Gouda – led by Dutch immigrant cheesemaker Marieke Penterman and her family – has won numerous top national and international awards for its cheeses, including being named the overall winner at the U.S. Cheese Championship in 2013.
