CV Roller Girls’ latest bout has Harry Potter theme

The Chippewa Valley Roller Girls are presenting a double-header Harry Potter inspired event called Hit It and Quidditch on April 9. The bout at the Eau Claire Indoor Sports Center starts at 6pm against the Dead River Derby from Marquette, Michigan, and the Keweenaw Roller Girls from Keweenaw, Michigan. With skates as fast as Nimbus 2000s and the show-no-mercy attitude of a Slytherin, these girls are sure to put on a keeper of an event. Roller derby consists of two teams of four blockers skating counter-clockwise while a point scorer from each team (in this case, we’re going to call her a seeker) tries to skate through the crowd, gaining points for each opposing team member she passes. Tickets are $8 in advance and can be purchased at brownpapertickets.com or at the door for $10. Children 12 and under are free. Spectators are encouraged to bring their own folding chairs, though bleacher seating is available.  “Suicide seating” – for the exceptionally brave 18+ of the land – is offered right on the track (butts only, no chairs).
