Barbara Arnold |

“Suites for your Sweet!” is the theme of the Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra’s second concert of its 2017-18 season. The concert will be Saturday, Nov. 4, at Grace Lutheran Church, 202 W. Grand Ave., starting at 7:30pm with a pre-concert talk at 6:45pm. The watercolors of artist Barb Hubbard will be on display. Under the direction of Music Director Frank A. Watkins, the orchestra will perform the following music: “Charterhouse Suite,” by Ralph Vaughan Williams based on his “Suite of Short Pieces for Pianoforte,” rearranged and orchestrated by music editor James Brown; “Concerto for Oboe and Strings” by Ralph Vaughn Williams with Steven Maijala, a freelance musician in the Twin Cities, as the featured soloist on oboe in this A Minor piece; “St. Paul Suite,” by Gustav Holst, who is best known for his famous suite “The Planets”; and “Idyll Suite for String Orchestra,” a late Romanic piece that foreshadows the Moravian folk song by Leos Janacek. Tickets – which are available at Neff’s Piano Shop, 510 Water St. – are $23 for adults, $9 for students, and $20 for seniors.
