Beaver Creek Butterfly Count welcomes nature lovers

Taylor Reisdorf |

Butterfly lovers young and old are invited to experience nature and wander among butterflies as they flutter through their natural environment at the annual Beaver Creek Reserve Butterfly Count. Open to people ages 8 and up, the event begins at 9:30am on Tuesday, July 10, with an instructional meeting at the Wise Nature Center. During this meeting, participants will learn all about the butterfly species likely to be seen during the count – which changes each year – and obtain a route assignment. Then, the counting commences. While counters typically stay for two to four hours, participants are able to spend as little (as long as they count for a minimum of one hour) or as much time counting as they’d like. At the end of the day, counting results are sent to the North American Butterfly Association. The Butterfly Count is free, but a suggested donation of $3 is encouraged and graciously accepted. Register online by July 7 at beavercreekreserve.org
