New Bike Trail Spans I-94 in Menomonie

Tom Giffey |

The City of Menomonie has added to its growing bicycle and pedestrian trail system by paving a new trail segment that crosses Interstate 94, linking the north and south sides of town. In recent weeks the city completed blacktopping a 0.6-mile stretch that spans the interstate on a newly built pedestrian bridge. The bridge – the first Menomonie overpass devoted solely to bikers and walkers – replaced an aging railroad bridge, which was removed last fall. Including the newly paved trail, the city now has 16 miles of paved trail, said Randy Eide, the city’s director of public works. The trail system includes an 8.3-mile loop around Lake Menomonie, which connects to the Red Cedar State Trail on the city’s west side.
