“Style & Substance” by Alicia Jungwirth
watercolor, gel pen, and gouache, 2018, 8.5” x 11”

Alicia Jungwirth is a self-taught artist and creative hobbit originally from Phoenix, now living in rural Wisconsin. She is inspired by family, music, fashion, colors, and pop culture.

“I am a self-taught artist working primarily with watercolors. I don’t consider myself a traditional watercolorist because while this is my preferred medium, my style is more of a mix between realism and pop art. I enjoy trying to push the limits of what I can create with this medium. I also love the variety of effects I can create from translucent to opaque. When I create a portrait, which is the main focus in my art, I try to imagine the thoughts and emotions of the subject and translate that onto to paper. To me, it is a moment paused in time of a person and a place.”  – The Artist

Volume One finds its cover art in a number of ways, from local art shows to random emails to knowing someone who knows someone who knows a great artist. The art always originates from a current or former Chippewa Valley resident. If you'd like to submit cover art, send us a message.
