The 133rd Silver Mine Invitational ski competition marks a special milestone for the popular winter event.  The Silver Mine complex is celebrating its 50th anniversary of hosting the event – the organization has dubbed the theme of this year’s competition “Silver Mine Turns Gold.”  The event will feature the Eau Claire Energy Cooperative and Touchstone Energy US Cup Tournament on Friday, Jan 18.  Saturday morning kicks off with the US Cup Nordic Combined Race at Tower Ridge recreation facility.  The gates to Silver Mine will reopen at 4pm ahead of the opening ceremonies, and the Charter Bank 5-Hills Tournament will begin at 6pm.  The Xcel Energy Long Standing Jump competition will take place under the course lights starting at 8:30pm, and awards will follow.  More than 50 skiers from all over the U.S. and the world are expected to compete in the weekend’s events.  Spectators can enjoy tailgating before and after events or concessions and beer provided by various vendors.  WEAU will host a heated hospitality tent to warm up in between events.  Live DJs and a blazing bonfire will round out the event.  Tickets for the weekend are $10 in advance or $15 at the gate, with children 12 and younger receiving free admission.  This annual event draws thousands of spectators every year.  More information about the event will take place at www.flyingeaglesskiclub.org.
