Let There Be (More) Light in Randall Park Neighborhood

An Eau Claire neighborhood heavily populated by college students now has extra street lighting. The UW-Eau Claire Student Senate, which had advocated for more street lights in the Historic Randall Park Neighborhood, said the added illumination will increase safety for students and other community members. “Motion sensor lighting has been added to the mid-block between Second and Third avenues on Niagara Street on a trial basis,” the Student Senate said in a Jan. 31 press release. “These lights will be tested for roughly a month.” Four more lights will be installed in the area in the near future, and the city also has agreed to add more streetlights in the middle of blocks and near the entrances to alleys, said the Student Senate, adding that it had been collaborating with the city, the Historic Randall Park Neighborhood Association, and Xcel Energy on the project.
