Sharing Hope Walk raises funds for suicide prevention

Samantha Kobs |

Looking for an awesome cause with a local focus? Get involved with this year’s second annual Sharing Hope Walk to Prevent Suicide. The National Alliance on Mental Illness-Chippewa Valley and Prevent Suicide Chippewa Valley are hosting the event on Saturday, Sept. 14,at Carson Park. The walk aims to prevent suicide while destigmatizing mental health issues through education and conversation. All proceeds (100%!) will benefit residents of the Chippewa Valley through resources such as support groups, suicide and mental health education, and a funds request bank. Beginning at 8:30am, there will be free coffee, donuts, henna tattoos, kids’ activities, and resource booths open to the community. Raffle ticket will also go on sale at 8:30 – $20, cash only – and they are expected to sell out quickly. Every single ticket is a winner with prizes ranging from a stay at The Oxbow Hotel to gift cards and merchandise from businesses such as The Bird Nest, The Local Store, and many more. The walk (a short loop around the park) will begin at 10am and is meant for reflection and connection. Participation in the walk is free, though donations are appreciated and can be made in cash or via credit/debit card at the event. Post-walk, head down to The District Pub & Grill where $1 will be donated for each item ordered – just mention the Sharing Hope event. Don’t miss this chance to support your local community and join in the conversation to make mental health a priority.
