Both UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stout have risen in the annual college rankings published recently by U.S. News & World Report. UWEC landed in a three-way tie for No. 4 among the Midwest’s top 33 public regional universities, moving up from fifth the previous year, the university said. Among all public and private universities in the Midwest, UWEC ranked 33rd of 162. “It is rewarding to see our move up in this prestigious ranking – a reflection of the great efforts by our outstanding faculty and staff who continue putting students first, always finding new ways to open doors to real learning for our students,” UW-Eau Claire Chancellor James Schmidt said in a news release.

Meanwhile, UW-Stout was ranked No. 14 on the same list of public regional universities, rising two spots from the 2018 list. UW-Stout also placed 72nd among all public and private universities in the 12-state Midwest region. U.S. News said its higher education rankings, now in their 35th year, are based upon 15 criteria, including student retention and graduation, class size, faculty salary, standardized tests, peer opinions, alumni giving, and more.
