THINKING OF INKING. Holly Stro of Riverside Tattoo on Menomonie Street, Eau Claire.

Holly Stro’s affection for nature and art is one of the reasons she has lived in the Chippewa Valley for over 25 years. Holly enjoys all things outdoors and spending quality time with her daughter. About 16 years ago she was given a chance to move her art skills from paper to skin when she was offered a tattoo apprenticeship. She is now a full-time tattoo artist and owner of Riverside Tattoo on Menomonie Street.

What is the most interesting tattoo you’ve ever done?

I did a color bomb sleeve on a friend, with honeycomb, Egyptian art, and a sky/space background, mix in a bit of jazz music. This was a fun journey, and it’s one of my favorites.

What place in town considers you a “regular”?

The local hiking/bike trails are my most visited places in Eau Claire.

What is your favorite piece of local trivia?

I love the Chippewa Valley Treasure Hunt!  The riddle/clues are often related to local history.

What book, TV show, or movie would you recommend to the members of the City Council?

I think everyone should see Instinct (with Anthony Hopkins). It’s loosely based on the book Siddhartha by Herman Hesse.

Water Street or Downtown?

Barstow vibes!

What part of town have you never visited (and why)?

I can’t think of a place in EC that I won’t go. I do avoid the bypass when possible though!

Death bed, choose one meal from a local restaurant, what would it be?

Red curry from Muang Thai!

What sort of economic development would you like to see in our area?

I would love to see more affordable housing in the Eau Claire area.

If you could rename Eau Claire with a different French name, what would it be? Why?

I feel like the name fits. The Eau Claire River is still crystal clear and so beautiful. If I had to choose another French name, maybe Les Rivieres?
