Closing the hunger gap in the community is a cause near and dear to Suzanne Becker’s heart. As executive director of the Feed My People Food Bank in Eau Claire, Suzanne is passionate about making sure that no one in the community goes hungry. After growing up in Eau Claire, Suzanne moved away for about 10 years then made her way back to the Chippewa Valley to raise her family. Her other passions are her family, the Wisconsin Badgers, and good pizza.

I am a Blugold alumni and most importantly a wife and proud mom of two adult girls.

How have you seen the impact of Feed My People within the community (or further)?

When I have helped at one of our food distributions, I have been overwhelmed by not only the need but also the gratitude expressed by so many. Together we are filling the hunger gap for our kids, seniors, and working families in a way that’s respectful to all. When that happens, when basic needs are met, our community is stronger.

How has the Chippewa Valley community been for Feed My People?

The Chippewa Valley is amazing in its generosity! The food bank exists through gifts of time, money, and helping to share the message of those struggling and the resources available to help. A special shout-out to our team of volunteers who work so hard and make us smile every day.

What are you hoping to do moving forward with Feed My People?

I’d love to say that someday there won’t be a need for hunger relief programming. Until that time, it is our mission to ensure access to healthy food for all children, seniors and families who struggle with food insecurity. No one should go hungry.

What place in town considers you a “regular”?

The Goat, The Fire House, and Acoustic Café. Too hard to just pick one.

What is your favorite piece of local trivia?

Old Abe! Old Abe was originally owned by my great-great grandfather, Dan McCann.

Death bed, one meal from a local restaurant, what would it be?

A pizza from Draganetti’s.

What is one of the best cultural experiences you’ve ever had in the Chippewa Valley?

I love the Pablo Center – both the shows they bring in as well as the local theater, music, and UWEC.

Carson Park. “As an adult I love to walk through the park and see the spirit of community at work. Everyone should go down the big slide, look at Hank Aaron’s statue, have an ice cream cone at the Chippewa Valley Museum, and so much more.”
