If you’re anything like me, you are often entranced by the artwork that reveals itself after being sculpted out of wood. Seriously, how do wood carvers do that out of a block of wood?! You can learn more about the craft at the Carve-In on the Chippewa event hosted by the West Wisconsin Wood Carvers Guild on Sept. 16.

This is the second year of the event, which will be held at the Brickhouse Pub & Grub (2233 Birch St., Eau Claire) from 10-4pm. The event is free to attend, with door prizes and 20 different carvers showcasing their work.

If you’re interested in watching the carvers while they work, there will be four different demonstrations as well as a live chainsaw carver in the parking lot, which is a new component of the event this year.

For those who have thought about dabbling in the art, there will also be used tools and books available for purchase at the event. You can also apply to join the West Wisconsin Carvers Guild on their website. The annual membership fees are $20 for a single person, $25 for a family, or a Beginner Carver package for $50 that includes your first year’s dues, a knife, glove, thumb guard, sharpening strop, and four projects with printed instructions.

The Carvers Guild meets at the L.E. Phillips Senior Center (1616 Bellinger St., Eau Claire) every second and fourth Wednesday of each month from 6-9pm and every Thursday from 1-4pm at the Chippewa Falls Senior Center (1000 E Grand Ave., Chippewa Falls).
