Power of Perception, founded by Dennis Beale, was honored with the “People’s Choice Award” on Oct. 10 at the Wisconsin Innovation Awards in Madison. The Eau Claire-based nonprofit organization was founded to provide more opportunities to black, biracial, and minority students in the community through mentoring programs, tutoring sessions, inspirational talks, and excursions.

The WIA seeks to celebrate and inspire innovation by acknowledging the creative spirit from the state’s leading public, private, and nonprofit organizations. The ceremony recognizes the state’s most innovative products and services from various industry categories including technology, food, healthcare, agriculture, nonprofits, education, and government.

Out of 300 nominees and 25 finalists, nine winners were honored during the event at the Memorial Union in Madison. The “People’s Choice Award” winner was determined by votes that were collected using an online platform during the ceremony. Guests at the ceremony had a QR code that allowed them to cast a single vote for a nominee of their choosing.

Power of Perception posted a comment about the achievement to its Facebook page that read, “Excited to announce we were awarded the ‘People’s Choice Award’ at the WIA ceremony tonight. We are truly grateful for all the continued support,” followed by a hashtag of Beale’s motto, “changing lives daily.”
