Thyroid Expert Panel

1 in 5 Americans are Hypothyroid - Only half of them know it. Affecting women 5-8 x more than men, thyroid inflammation is undiagnosed in up to 60% of patients. If left untreated, it can put you at risk for and/or lead to other autoimmune conditions like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Addison’s disease, Graves’ disease, myasthenia gravis, premature ovarian failure, diabetes, pernicious anemia, scleroderma, vitiligo, alopecia, blood clotting disorders or even thyroid cancer.

This panel discussion is open to physicians, nurses or anyone interested in learning how to work with their physician to address thyroid or autoimmune issues. You'll not only learn why thyroid is so widely under-diagnosed, but you'll have a better understanding of how thyroid issues can impact your entire body, and how you can heal those issues to heal your thyroid.

Kristie Gering, MD has been a family physician in Chippewa Falls and has a personal interest as she was diagnosed with thyroid inflammation called Hashimotos. In 2013, she began training in Functional Medicine. In January 2017, she opened Spero Wellness.

She will address why functional medicine can offer more in-depth insight as to why some people experience hypothyroidism symptoms despite having “normal thyroid tests”, why some with thyroid disease don’t feel better with standard treatment, and what factors may be triggering thyroid problems in the first place.

Jill Grunewald, HNC, Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach, and founder of Healthful Elements, is a thyroid health, Hashimoto’s, and alopecia (autoimmune hair loss) specialist and co-author of the #1 best selling Essential Thyroid Cookbook.

She has successfully guided her clients and students with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s to health and vitality and has helped many of her alopecia clients reverse their devastating hair loss. She not only specializes in Hashimoto’s and alopecia, but also Graves’, adrenal dysfunction, and perimenopause/menopause. Her next book, Reversing Alopecia, will be published in Fall 2020.

She has over 15 years experience in health care. Her practice includes integrated mental health services for emotional and physical wellness with a focus on medication management.
