Sicamore: Your neighborhood band

Nick Meyer |

I’ll just start with the actual lesson of this post: befriend your neighbors. That simple effort has birthed what is undoubtedly about to become one of the Chippewa Valley’s best and most popular rock acts. Returning to Chippewa Falls after 15 years in the Minneapolis area, signer and guitarist Joey D started talking music (literally) over the fence with his neighbor Jesse Hayes. Turns out, Jesse was a great drummer. Then it turned out, Jesse’s brother Joel (who just moved back from Milwaukee) was a great guitar player. Several garage sessions later, the exceedingly strong rootsy power trio Sicamore has emerged. And holy crap – you’re about to love them. The vocals are strong, the lyrics are honest, and the tone (featuring a rare baritone guitar) is amazing. They stomp out some serious (and acceptably) catchy songs mashed up from all the best parts of hard rock, alt-country, and punk. And great news, you can see them soon on the first night of the House of Rock’s Decadent Cabaret, Friday March 6. AND, they’re being interviewed and playing live on WHYS 96.3fm this Sunday at 5pm. Get ready, I think you’re about to hear a lot more about Sicamore.
