Next Week: A Local Meeting to Save the Arts

Matt Ledger |

So we all know that there’re some massive cuts coming for the funding of the Wisconsin Arts Board and other state arts programs. The Arts Board budget in particular is taking a hit of 73%, and Wisconsin is looking at becoming the 47th ranked state in the nation for arts funding. The word is out, and a lot of people are angry, but the question now is this: what can we do about it?

That’s exactly what Anne Katz, Executive Director of Arts Wisconsin, is looking to discuss next Wednesday. On April 12, from 12-1 pm, any and all who want to work to save the arts in Wisconsin are invited to the Eau Claire Regional Arts Center for a meeting which will discuss not only Governor Walker’s proposed cuts, but how to take action and speak up for the arts in Wisconsin.

So if you’re a local artist, an arts teacher, or just a parent who doesn’t want to see the arts go the way of the dodo, be sure to check this meeting out. It may be the first step towards salvaging funding for the arts in our state.
