High fives! Wisconsin's volunteer rate soars

Give yourselves a well-earned self-high five, neighborly neighbors of Wisconsin: you’re ranked eighth in the nation’s volunteer rates! And if you’re from Milwaukee, get this. You’re No. 1. That’s not cheesy praise, either. When it comes to volunteer retention, Milwaukee is ranked first.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the typical Wisconsin resident spends about 36 hours every year giving back to their communities. Not bad, especially when taking into consideration how busy your average Wisconsinite truly is. And out of those hours, about a quarter were spent in Milwaukee.

So, what does this say about us? Well, that the rumors are true, of course! That Midwestern, neighborly reputation is based on fact. And now we have the fancy-pants documentation to prove it.
