Our Own Thing: An Eaux Claires Interview with Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner

With headliners like Bon Iver, The National, Sufjan Stevens, Spoon, and few other great surprises (see the lineup), July's Eaux Claires Music & Arts Festival – co-curated by Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner (The National) – is one of the most exciting things to hit the Chippewa Valley in quite some time.
A few weeks ago, Volume One was able to visit April Base recording studio outside of Eau Claire to talk with the core Eaux Claires organizers – Vernon and Dessner, plus creative director Michael Brown and "fest narrator" Michael Perry, who thus far has been setting the tone in a series of teaser videos. We've got the whole chat for you, along with a few other exclusive items. From the interview:
"Some of the musical things that can happen here I think can’t happen in New York or in London or in LA, because if you bring people together and put musicians in a place where they can be spontaneous ... Sometimes you’re not as spontaneous when you’re under the microscope. Ultimately, the goal is to blend the traditional performances that these bands and artists are gonna do with more adventurous programming of fine art and new music and film.
