Peering at the Future, Looking for Fun
sometimes we know exactly what’s coming for the Valley, and sometimes the view is cloudy

One of the weird things about working in the media is always trying to stay a step ahead of everyone else. While we’re not exactly tripping over ourselves like reporters in an old movie trying to phone scoops back to the newsroom, we are in the business of telling folks – in this case, families in the Chippewa Valley – things they don’t already know. After all, if you knew about every fun activity, every learning opportunity, and every interesting neighbor in the Valley, you wouldn’t bother to check out our magazine.
The positive side effect of trying to see around every corner is we often get to find things out before most other people. To use a timely analogy, we get to peek at what Santa left under the tree before anyone else crawls out of bed on Christmas morning. We’re excited to tell everyone about what we learned – and hopefully, we didn’t shake the boxes hard enough to break anything! In this issue, for instance, you’ll learn the latest about the Children’s Museum of Eau Claire’s construction plans, check out a proposal for a big new skate park in Eau Claire, explore an exhibit of toys that will thrill kids and parents alike, and meet some outstanding kids doing extraordinary things.

Because our magazine comes out only every two months, and because it has to be written, edited, paginated, printed, shipped, and distributed in advance, there are always things going on that we simply don’t know about yet. In particular, as we go to press with this issue in late October (with leaves still on the trees and Halloween candy still waiting for trick-or-treaters), we know there are plenty of opportunities for holiday fun that haven’t been announced or scheduled yet, so you won’t find them here.
Remember, then, that the calendar of events and other listings and articles you find in these pages are a living document. Luckily for us – and for you and your family! – we’re constantly updating our huge online events calendar, which you can find 24 hours a day at chippewavalleyfamily.org (just click on “events”). Consider it an always-fresh, never-ending to-do list of holiday fun. If there’s an event missing from our printed calendar, chances are you’ll find it online. And if it isn’t online, chances are we don’t know about it, so please email editor@chippewavalleyfamily.org and fill us in! This time of year, news of extra holiday cheer is especially welcome.
