This marginally majestic-looking mountain does not stand in one of our National Parks – it’s at the east end of Galloway Street near downtown Eau Claire. And it’s made of snow. Cory Tietz (Streets Division Supervisor for the city and the man who’s been coordinating the majority of Eau Claire’s snow operations this winter) says the mound holds over 108,000 (cubic) yards of snow. And this is just one of the city’s collection sites. Presumably, recent warm temperatures have turned a lot of it into water and slush. We believe the mountain won’t be completely melted until the summer of 2021.
