THEY’VE BEAN IT ALL: Thoughts from Those We Trust With Our Espresso

some local baristas spill the beans on unusual orders

Coffee shop regulars often get to know the folks in charge of preparing their precious espresso elixir, and most have solidified their go-to order. I’m an iced latte drinker year-round myself, but our local baristas aim to please no matter the order – even the surprising, complicated, and quirkier orders. Here are some interesting orders local baristas have made work.

SCOTT VICEK of THE FRENCH PRESS

“I am always taken back when a customer asks for cayenne pepper added to their drink, and a little concerned when they want a total of four or more shots of espresso. But my most memorable drinks come from customers that know that I dabble in latte art when time allows. I once was asked to do latte art of overalls, and another time a customer held up their phone to have me do latte art of their dog. I tried my best on both occasions.”

AJ KOCIMSKI of SHIFT CYCLERY & COFFEE BAR

“The most memorable order I received from one of our regulars definitely had to be a dirty apple cider (espresso and apple cider). The customer and I both looked at each other, wondering ‘is this possible?’ We were both willing to experiment and they ended up loving it.”
