Betty Boop Festival Hits Wisconsin Rapids

Emily Diehl |

Myron “Grim” Natwick, a former animator at the famed Fleischer Studios in New York, helped bring classic cartoons like Betty Boop to the screen, and has since helped bring an August 5-8 festival to Wisconsin. The Betty Boop Festival in Wisconsin Rapids takes over the entire city for events like a Betty Boop Bash Party, an annual car show, Hollywood Archives Exhibit, art exhibit, and Betty Boop Revue. The cornerstone of the event is the Grim Natwick Film Festival featuring animated classics (including Boop, of course), animated films from locals and Wisconsinites, and a screening of the phenomenal indie animation sensation Sita Sings the Blues, with filmmaker Nina Paley in attendance for a Q & A. So “Boop-Oop-a Doop” on down there for this one-of-a-kind celebration of animation.
