New Savannah Smith Album

Sarah McCall |

Savannah Smith is no ordinary recording artist. Her music started randomly with the purchase of a cheap ukulele on her family’s vacation in Hawaii, and has since gone above and beyond her wildest expectations. While attending Stout, Savannah perfected not only the ukulele, but also ventriloquism. Her unique style wasn’t properly recognized, though, until she transferred to a recording school in Minneapolis, where she and other students put together her latest record, a 7-inch vinyl EP. It’s an atypical collaboration that uses accordion, a handsaw, and banging on walls for percussion, but hinges on Savannah’s singer-songwriter sensibilities. Although it may sound weird, the four-track effort works as perfect chill-out music resembling Caroline Smith or Lucy Michelle, and it’s even getting some radio play in the UK. Stay tuned to her MySpace for tracks.
