The new Menomonie micro-brew will offer Easy Rider Pale Ale, Slow Hand Stout (with coffee and chocolate notes from toasted malt), and Shining Dawn Golden Belgian Ale.

Benjamin Franklin once said, “Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.” Ol’ Ben was perhaps on to something. Living in Wisconsin, beer is a part of life. There’s cheese, there’s brats, and there’s beer. It transcends societal boundaries. It’s a common thread connecting us all. And what’s better than good local beer?

With the opening of Menomonie’s Lucette Brewing Company, the local scene just got significantly brighter. Mike Wilson and the forward-thinking team have 40-plus collective years in the industry. For the past 18 months they’ve been working their creative hinders off cooking up something unique: barrels and barrels of high-quality brew along the banks of the Red Cedar River.

Local brew isn’t the newest concept. In Milwaukee one drank Schlitz, Blatz, Pabst, or Miller, in La Crosse Old Style or Special Export was quaffed en masse, and here we imbibed Leinie’s and Walter’s. Recently, microbreweries arrived on the scene introducing the refined art of craft beer to our pilsner-stained palates. With more attention on quality and flavor than volume, this trend toward smaller batches, top ingredients, and more diverse product meant local yum for everyone.

Brewing craft beer is a balance of alchemy and science, and Lucette has it dialed in just right. They are offering three über fresh n’ local options: Easy Rider Pale Ale, Slow Hand Stout (with coffee and chocolate notes from toasted malt), and a slide-down-your-throat, world class Shining Dawn Golden Belgian Ale.

During an interview with Mike, two words came up repeatedly: local and quality. Mike feels, “There’s a lot of value in buying local if it’s a quality option. You know who and where it’s coming from.” When asked what he loves about his job, he says, “I wake up every day and it hasn’t felt like I have to go to work. I feel like I don’t work anymore.”

I want to drink what he’s brewing. This fresh and local nectar is ready and will soon be available at your local drinking establishments. Mike and the Lucette Brewing team believe in educating folks about top quality craft beer and tours (coming soon) of their facility will offer all that and more.
