Take the Plunge

Get warm fuzzy charity feelings at the same time as frozen fingers at the Polar Plunge

Emily Anderson |

Want to prove yourself as a true Wisconsinite? Want to help the Special Olympics? Why not do the Polar Plunge? At Half Moon Lake on February 26, 2012, individuals and teams will jump into three feet of icy cold water to raise money for Special Olympics. You haven’t lived until you have felt the all-over chill that comes from submerging yourself in a freezing lake in the middle of winter. Those brave enough to take the plunge can sign up as an individual or part of a team right up to the date of the jump. All participants are encouraged to wear costumes for their jump. Prizes will be awarded to the individual and team with the best one. NOTE: From personal experience, togas are NOT a good idea. Not only is the Polar Plunge fun, it’s safe. There are emergency staff placed both in and around the water at all times as well as volunteers on the edge to help you out. Hot cocoa and other concessions will be available throughout the day to warm up plungers and spectators. Participants are encouraged to collect pledges/donations from friends, relatives, coworkers, etc., which will benefit the Special Olympics of Wisconsin. If you would like to collect donations but are afraid to jump, you can register to do so, but you have to accept the title of “Chicken.”
