Essentially Ellington is one of the country’s most famous high school jazz competitions. Each year 15 high school jazz bands from all over the country are selected to participate in this prestigious event. This year, for the eighth time in a decade, a Chippewa Valley school has been selected. North High School Jazz band, under the direction of Bruce Hering, students will get to travel to New York City in May where they will be able to attend workshops, jam sessions, perform at the Lincoln Center, and meet Grammy award winning jazz musician Wynton Marsalis. Ever since hearing the big news, the band has been working diligently to raise money for the trip. They have sent letters to local businesses and individuals requesting donations and also have set up an online donation form on their school’s website. Anyone who is interested in donating can visit the EC North website or send a check to the school. Otherwise, wish them luck!
