If you love reading, you know that hearing writers read their own work is a delight.  They just have a way with their own words, I guess.  The L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library in Eau Claire has a great event coming up, called “Writers Read: Funny Stuff.”  It will be on Tuesday, October 9 from 7 to 9 pm in the Eau Claire Room of the library, and here’s the best part, it’s free! The “Writers Read” series is new at the library, started this spring by Bruce Taylor, a retired professor of English at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Typically, a crowd of about forty to fifty comes out to hear local writers.  This month will feature Larry Heagle, Jon Loomis, and August Rubrecht, three local funny guys.  Larry Heagle is a comedian, Jon Loomis is a professor of English at UW-Eau Claire, and August Rubrecht is retired from teaching at the university and reads adult folklore.  They will be doing readings and monologues of their own work that are sure to tickle your funny bone. Afterwards the library will serve cookies and punch to satisfy your hungry belly that’s sore from laughing.  You can even chat with the writers themselves.  Maybe if you’re lucky, you can get an autograph or two. The library plans to have the “Writers Read” events on a monthly basis, with a different theme each month.  Next month’s event will be on November 13, called “Writers Read: Praise and Thanksgiving.”
