All That Remains of a Summer's Day” by Marcella Edmund, (2001), 20” x 16”

Marcella Edmund is an artist and collector, and she makes things every day, often using things she has found. She has the Best Job Ever at the Antique Emporium in downtown Eau Claire.

“When I work with collaged images I have to allow them to influence the outcome. I arrange for hours, but only when I let go and walk away, and return later, do I see what to do. The hardest part is actually taking scissors to the antique images and cutting. It has to be done.  As I spend time on the art work, it becomes saturated with feeling and revelation.  ‘All That Remains…’ was actually made on Sept. 11 and 12, 2001. I was in my art studio, a tiny farmhouse in a remote valley, working on the collage, when my partner phoned with the News. Continuing the artwork was the only thing I could do. I knew that when I returned to town, nothing would be the same.” – The Artist
