The Eau Queer Film Festival focuses on celebrating our diverse community – specifically its LGBTQIA+ branches – at UW-Eau Claire and beyond. Eau Queer embraces the art of film, screening almost a week’s worth of features, comedies, and shorts from the queer cinema from Oct. 10-14 at UWEC. According to eauqueer.com, “We embrace difference, promote equality, encourage activism, and challenge and educate through the powerful medium of film.” The theme for the eighth annual festival, “Activate,” evokes activism, support, and pride. The festival will include nearly 20 films, all of them free! Audiences are invited to discuss the films in sessions led by UWEC faculty, LGBTQ and allied organizations, and students. The organization adds, “These conversations after films are significant, whether with a filmmaker, friend, or stranger,” so participation on all ends is welcome. The entire schedule is chock full of inspiring content, starting Oct. 10 with a screening of director Damon Cardasis’ feature Saturday Church. This coming-of-age film with award-winning actor Luka Cain, plays a young man struggling to establish sexual and gender identity, and the screening will feature a special guest, cast member Kate Bornstein. The humanity expressed through these films can be comical and at times dark, and will hit home for many.
