Upon the release of his forthcoming record People Are My Drug (which is streaming now), Phil Cook will make his way home to the Chippewa Valley to perform on Oct. 20 in the Jamf Theater at the Pablo Center at the Confluence. He’s the second act to be announced from the Pablo’s inaugural season this fall (the first being The Tallest Man On Earth on Nov. 19). You can grab tickets and learn more at pablocenter.org.

The radio station formerly known as Blugold Radio has announced a big name change to better encapsulate what the station is all about. From here on out, 99.9FM is home to Verge 99.9. “We’re rebranding not to reflect changes in what we offer to our listening area, but rather to better match what listeners have grown to love about our contribution to the regional music scene,” Station Manager Scott Morfitt said in a press release. The new name was selected after numerous surveys, panels, focus groups, and student research – and still plans to be a beacon for local music, as well as national and international indie tunes.

We Are The Willows, a formerly local-ish band that now resides in Minneapolis, is back with an upbeat new single called “The Prettiest Please.” The song – and a few more forthcoming singles – was recorded at April Base in Fall Creek and mixed/mastered by Mike Noyce. The song comes with a homemade lyric video created with over 180 images from the New York Public Library’s public domain digital archive collaged with family photographs.
