Check out aisle 25 at Woodmans (2855 Woodman Drive, Altoona) for your noshing needs, as that’s where you can find a tidy selection of meats and sauces from none other than Dhimiters, the gyro joint and mobile food truck based in Oakwood Mall. The locally owned establishment started rolling out 12- and 16-ounce tubs of house-made cucumber sauce and 8-ounce servings of rotisserie gyro meat fresh off the spit so that anyone could assemble their own delicious sandwiches at home. But wait, there’s more! According to owner Vangjel Kapbardhi, the restaurant is in negotiations with several bar and grills in the region to begin supplying them with the ingredients to serve Dhimiters’ gyros. In past years, Dhimiters has returned $8,000 to $10,000 to the Chippewa Valley community through charitable donations. Kapbardhi hopes that this expansion will increase the amount of giving the restaurant can do.
