“Cross Congregation” by Janice Roberts
ink and graphite, 7.5x10”, 2017

Janice Roberts graduated from UW-Eau Claire and taught art for 30 years. She is now a full-time artist working primarily with ink and mixed media.

“When drawing I love to create textures and experiment with different techniques or media combinations. To me, dark values comprised of tightly grouped small strokes provide more depth and interest. Whether I am exaggerating a building’s perspective or rendering only its signature essence, I enjoy the process of examining and then capturing the work from a different, yet still intimate, angle. The same approach applies to discovering a quirky item in nature. Alternate points of view are all of interest to me. Traveling to places near and far offers endless subject matter, which keeps me curious and motivated to create. “Cross Congregation” resulted from one such exploration to St. Patrick’s Church and incorporates a mix of ink strokes with subtle tonal variations in graphite.”  – The Artist
