Add another entry to the Chippewa Valley-bands-poised-for-national-attention list: Them Coulee Boys released their album Die Happy in 2019, went on tour with Trampled by Turtles, and have been playing at successively larger venues ever since. Our second-place entry, North of Dixie Bluegrass Band (about 950 miles north, in case you’re curious) tours a little closer to home, but can still rile a crowd with their white-hot banjos and fiddles. And coming in third, Eggplant Heroes is a notorious local Americana group with just enough twang and literary bona fides to keep the crowds stomping their feet. – Eric Rasmussen
