Once the early hunter/gatherer humans moved into towns and cities, outbreaks of infectious diseases became more prevalent. In today’s environment with air travel moving people and food rapidly from place to place, outbreaks of person to person and food borne infectious diseases are more common. The talk will overview the risk of epidemics in the current time, highlighting ways of surveillance and commenting on current “plagues” and possible future ones.
