Soundboard Readers RE: The Chippewa Valley Needs More Folk-Pop

Chances are you are already quite familiar with Mason Jennings, the sometimes overly-earnest singer songwriter from Minneapolis, Minnesota.  His everyman persona coupled with his straight forward approach to pop-folk songwriting has led to a successful string of releases and tours throughout the decade.  Most memorable throughout his releases is his unwavering persistence of distinctive but dissonant vocals.  Sometimes rhythmic, other times honest, and even occasionally off-key, Mason’s slip-sliding tenor vocals have always been at the center of his music.  Forgoing the usual studio tricks to enhance or alter vocals, we are left with a vocal performance that is raw and humble.  Perhaps this is put best by a certain UW Stout building director, “Mason Jennings, a voice of a generation.”  More importantly, since fans of his are already aware of everything I just explained, I would like to take some time to display words that rhyme with Mason: Crustacean Elation Elevation Basin Hasten Chasten.

You should think of some other rhyming words on your way to the concert Wednesday April 8th, which features Mason Jennings, with openers Rae Cassidy and Kristen Korkowski.  Showtime is at 8 P.M. in the Great Hall of the Memorial Student Center on campus @ The University of Wisconsin Stout in Menomonie.  Tickets are $15 to the public, and are available at tickets.uwstout.edu.
