Memorial High School Sustainable Project

I am an Environmental Science teacher at Memorial High School writing to invite you to a city planning meeting. My students and I are studying urban sprawl and environmental problems associated with this type of development. Students have identified that Eau Claire has undergone many recent changes and therefore our land use patterns need some revision. The project has generated tremendous excitement among students to create meaningful change. At this point in the process, students believe in their ideas for redevelopment and are requesting an audience of community stakeholders that have the power to facilitate their plans.

Up until this point, students have been meeting with regional and city planners as well as interested community members. We have also studied several examples of cities who have adopted Smart Growth Plans. My students’ plans not only represent needs of youth in our community, but are realistic visions modeled after successful redevelopment projects. Your participation in this event will reinforce their efforts and provide you with innovative solutions to some of our current development needs. Our meeting will be held at Memorial High School in room 2165 on June 3, 9:30-10:45. Please RSVP by May 27.
