Artists: class up Wis. buildings with your sweet artwork

Gillian Ekern

Wisconsin Arts Board’s Percent for Art Program is currently accepting applications for its 2009-10 Direct Purchase Program. This program allows Wisconsin residents to submit artwork of varied media to be purchased by and displayed in state facilities. The program comes from a 1980 Wisconsin Legislature enacted statute assuring at least two-tenths of one percent of the total construction costs for eligible state building projects be used in acquiring works of art for the buildings. This year's selections will be based on the artist’s entire body of artwork rather than individual pieces and the entire process can be done online. The application deadline is September 1. Eligible candidates must live in the state for at least one year and may not be students in a fine arts degree program.
