Underwater Fish Painting

Summary

1. Draw a fish using washable markers.
2. Color this fish in, again using washable markers.
3. Use brushes and water to cause the marker to run, making the fish appear to be underwater.

Age Level

Project should be easily accomplished by ages 4 and up with help from a grown-up.

Approximate Time

Project should be accomplished in 30 minutes or less.

Materials Needed

• Washable markers
• Cups
• Paint brushes
• Water
• Tag paper
• Paper towels
• Clipboard (or another way to hang up picture until it dries)

Educational Aspects

• Children will observe how materials interact and change.
• Children will be able to create a colorful creation that changes when colors interact.

Objectives/Outcomes

• Children will work in two simple steps to create a project that changes in front of their eyes.
• Children will practice fine motor skills while drawing and coloring.
• Children will be respectful when using and sharing materials.


 

Jellyfish

Summary

1. Introduce the kids to jellyfish. Where do they live? What do they eat? What do they look like?
2. Take a paper plate or bowl and punch holes around the perimeter.
3. Tie pieces of string in the holes so they hang down like tentacles.
4. Optional: Tape paper strips underneath as additional tentacles.
5. Decorate the paper plate using markers, colored paper (you can give it a face), googly eyes, etc.

• Hole punches
• Scissors
• Colored paper
• Markers
• Googly eyes
• Book about jellyfish

Kids will create their own jellyfish using paper plates, string, and paper.


 

Looking for the ARTMobile this summer? You’ll find it frequently in Phoenix Park through Sept. 23. It will be under the Farmer’s Market pavilion from 9am to 1pm Wednesdays and 1-5pm Thursdays. The ARTmobile will also be at the Artists Market of Eau Claire from 7:30am to 1pm Saturdays and at the Sounds Like Summer Concert Series on Thursday evenings through Aug. 25.
