Party Time With Peter and the Wolf

Barbara Arnold |

The Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra will perform Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf” and Vivaldi’s “Concerto for Two” at the Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra’s annual free concert for family and friends. Music director Frank A. Watkins will conduct the orchestra at 2pm Saturday, Jan. 27, in Grace Lutheran Church, 202 W. Grand Ave., Eau Claire. The musicians will also host the ever-popular instrument petting zoo to expose children to music and their instruments. New this year is a craft room where children can make musical instruments while having milk and cookies.

All ages are welcome to attend the free concert, which will last less than one hour to accommodate young listeners. “Peter and the Wolf” is well-known for the variety of instruments that represent characters in the children’s fairy tale. Meanwhile, students from The Cello Connection studio taught by Susan Halderman, a cellist in the orchestra, will perform Vivaldi’s “Concerto for Two Cellos in G Minor,” a lovely piece that is akin to dueling.
