From north to south, east to west, Wisconsin boasts a number of natural resources in its abundant lakes and rivers. Less well known are the giant fish sculptures and talking cows.

1. Largest Lake

The largest lake in Wisconsin is Lake Winnebago, located in east central Wisconsin. The surface area of the lake covers 215.16 square miles. It “wins” this title.

2. Deepest Lake

Lake Wazee is the deepest of all 15,074 lakes in the state of Wisconsin. Located just east of Black River Falls, Lake Wazee measures at a depth of 335 feet. Wah-zee or Wa-ZEE?

3. Longest River

The length of the Wisconsin River stretches over Wisconsin for 430 miles, making it the longest river in the state.

4. Highest Point

The highest natural point in Wisconsin is Timms Hill, sitting at an elevation of 1,951.5 feet. Timms Hill is located in north central Wisconsin in the town of Hill in Price County.

5. Lowest Point

Lake Michigan rests at 579 feet above sea level, placing it at the lowest natural point in the state of Wisconsin.

6. Biggest State Park

The biggest state park in Wisconsin happens to be Devil’s Lake State Park, which is 15 miles from Wisconsin Dells.

7. Largest County Population

With a population of 951,448 people, Milwaukee County is the largest county in Wisconsin.

8. Biggest County

By physical size, Marathon County is the biggest county in Wisconsin, measuring at 1,545 square miles.

9. World’s Largest Talking Cow

Part of Wisconsin’s charm is its whimsical dairy-related monuments apparently. In Neillsville exists Chatty Belle, the world’s largest talking cow. She takes up 7 times more space than the average cow, and doesn’t produce any cheese or milk, but we’ll keep her.

10. World’s Largest Fish Statue

The largest fish sculpture in the world is claimed by the people of Hayward, Wisconsin. The sculpture is situated at the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame, and depicts a muskie, resting at over 4 stories tall.

11. World’s Biggest Penny

Woodruff, Wisconsin is home to the world’s biggest penny. This uncommon sight was inspired by a family doctor, Kate Pelham, who made it her mission to fundraise for a hospital to be built in Woodruff. Students and residents of Woodruff were able to save their pennies and raise enough money to dedicate to the future hospital - and repay her with one big penny.
