The Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts’ upcoming season is laugh-worthy, thanks to the addition of a regular comedy series that will run September through November and February through April. “The Mabel Laughs” will feature local and national comedic talent on the third or fourth Thursday of each month. The first show is Sept. 20 at 7:30pm, and features a slate of up-and-coming Minneapolis comics Jakey Emmert, Courtney Baka, Jodie Maruska, Mai Yaqub, and Ryan Kahl. Throughout the coming months, many more jokesters will grace the stage, including ESPN Snapchat manager Cy Admunson, “Upload with Shaquille O’Neal” cohost Godfrey, and Erin Jackson, who has been featured on Conan and Ellen. There are also plans to feature a national touring comedian as February’s headliner, according to Mabel Tainter Promotions Committee member and program organizer Dustyn Dubuque. “Being a huge fan of comedy and frequently attending The Plus in Eau Claire and the Acme Comedy Club in Minneapolis, I wanted to bring a part of that to Menomonie,” Dubuque said. “Sitting in a room with 280 other people that just want to laugh, what can be more fun than that?” The series is geared in part toward UW-Stout students, and a discount will be given to attendees who show a student ID. Shows will be restricted to people 18 years of age or older, unless accompanied by a guardian. Learn more at www.mabeltainter.org.
