Not only has Poquette, Donnellan & Schlewitz Law been helping people in the Chippewa Valley for decades, but its three partners Ron Poquette, Sarah Donnellan and Sam Schlewitz have local roots that run generations-deep. To say they know this community is an understatement. Together, the trio have about 100 years of Chippewa Valley legal experience and they have crafted a family atmosphere that supports its small-team style while offering top-tier service.
This truly local firm handles cases in nearly a dozen different legal areas and is proud to be led for the last 17 years by office manager and head paralegal, Danette Teigen, who also has generations-deep roots in the Valley. Teigen states that “our client’s love our warm family atmosphere, and that, coupled with our versatility, is a rare specialty in the legal field which allows us to help as many people as we can right here in our community. I love helping people and that is how we train our staff, to help people to the best of our ability.”
Keenan Crawford
The team has recently welcomed a delightful new Attorney, Keenan Crawford. Before going to Law School at St. Thomas, Crawford graduated from UW-Eau Claire where he met his now-wife, Angel. While Crawford graduated with a political science degree and an emphasis in legal studies, his path to becoming a lawyer started even before that.
“I took my first political science class in high school and of course then, we really only talked about some big cases, but I remember thinking how cool it was to learn about these decisions that were so impactful,” Keenan said. “From that point on, I always knew I wanted to practice law.”
Prior to joining Poquette, Donnellan and Schlewitz, Crawford gained legal experience at the Minneapolis City Attorney’s Office and a few other firms, but it has always been in the cards for the Green Bay native to land back in Eau Claire. In just over one year, Keenan has gotten his feet wet in multiple areas of law, “my favorite areas of practice are estate planning/trusts, probate, contracts, lease agreements, property and real estate disputes/negotiations and worker’s compensation.”
While handling a few unique issues, such as negotiating an NBA contract, it’s the environment of Poquette, Donnellan & Schlewitz Law Firm that assures him he is working in the right place, with the right team.
“The atmosphere here is not traditional,” Keenan explained. “Those other firms had more strict, harsh and competitive atmospheres. At Poquette, Donnellan & Schlewitz, we have competitiveness, but it’s in a way where we push each other to be better. It feels more family-oriented.”
The Poquette, Donnellan & Schlewitz team spent a handful of years looking for the next right attorney, someone to add to their expertise and who held the same family-oriented values.
“No one felt quite right until we met with Keenan,” Schlewitz recalled. “He has this zest for life; Keenan’s values and energy, his honest desire to do good work and help people, you just can’t teach that.” Donnellan agreed, explaining that “Keenan’s seemingly endless curiosity stood out, and he continues to bring forward creative ideas that lift the entire team.”
“Eau Claire is a growing city and it’s still easy to make personal relationships with people, which is just one reason I love it here,” Keenan said. “My wife and I are very happy to be back and the atmosphere (at the firm) makes it a true team.”
Following suit with the firm’s inspiration to balance work and life in favor of life, Keenan spends his free time golfing at Mill Run and Lake Hallie Golf Course, playing volleyball at Wagner’s Lanes, seeing the latest film release in theaters, and being with his family.
