“1872-2022” by Taylor McCumber, Volume One graphic designer • From the artist: “When creating the city-wide branding for a historic moment like Eau Claire’s sesquicentennial, it’s likely that vintage photos will be the backbone of the celebration’s visual identity. But instead of the usual black-and-white or sepia-toned vibes many may expect, Volume One graphic designer Taylor McCumber wanted to approach it all with an aesthetic that felt fresh and different – something that would give Eau Claire’s 150th its own look. That’s where modern touches, such as color blocking and overlays with a primary color-inspired palette, and more current interpretations of retro typefaces, all came in. The result is a fun and colorful filter on history, fit for the celebrating the past, present, and future of our incredible city.”

Volume One finds its cover art in a number of ways, from local art shows to random emails to knowing someone who knows someone who knows a great artist. The art always originates from a current or former Chippewa Valley resident. If you'd like to submit cover art, send us a message.
