Where Do Words Come From? is a new children’s book written by local parent Anthony McMorran. Illustrated by Stella Maris, the book highlights the importance of the words we choose to speak and what meaning they are given. Additionally, this children’s book kept parents in mind, the narrative propelling into an adventure-themed book that shows the weight of the words we use.

“I came up with these metaphors and questions about words that I felt would be helpful for parents because it’s not easy to be a parent,” McMorran explained.

With this book, McMorran wanted to emphasize great illustrations and word choice while also communicating an effective message for readers of any age. The story begins with a quote from Buddha Dharma on the origin of words, then follows alongside the whimsical voyage of the main character, words embedded in the illustration and varying in size and shape.

One aspect of mindfulness is to take a pause and a breath to think about the word choice you use and what their impact may be, something that is underscored in McMorran’s book.

“When people do see the book, they tend to really respond well to it, and I’m really pleased with that,” McMorran said.

McMorran, an owner and therapist at Tuning Tree Healing Services in Eau Claire, notes that it’s never too late to try new things or go back to old projects or hobbies and continue working on them. Keep an eye out for any upcoming McMorran projects in the future, including two more mindfulness-based children’s books in the works, soon to round out the three-book series.
