Eau Claire County Humane Society’s (ECCHA) new pet promotion features cats in basketball gear ready to take on their furry opponents in a madness match like no other. Honoring their older cats or ones with special needs, the large bracket will feature discounts that grow as the adopted cats are taken off the court. Hoping to reach some loving homes, the event aims to get cats out of the shelter and into a life of love (and sure, basketball too, if you're into that).

“How we set our bracket determines on our current population, so it’s a little different every year,” Addie Erdmann, Marketing and Development Director at ECCHA, said. Currently hosting over 130 animals at the shelter, these promotions also help to ensure each pet is getting the attention and care they need.

The cats will be featured in basketball-themed posts on Facebook for users to share and interact with, and hopefully inspire an adoption, all March long. “We can’t tell you just how many times a friend of a friend shared one of our Facebook posts that turned into an adoption,” Erdmann said.

“We create the large bracket at the start of the promotion where many cats have smaller discounts. As cats get adopted out, those that are still here will move on in the bracket and slowly become more discounted the longer they stay,” she said. “The final two cats have their adoption fees waived.”

The event will run from March 13 to April 3, so get your basketball gear ready to head out onto the court – you may just meet your next best friend.
