The Chippewa Valley’s Public Painting Project is gearing up for its second annual mural project, slated for Aug. 27-31. They are currently seeking local creatives interested in helping with the project to apply. Participants will receive first-hand experience with the creative design and installation of large-scale mural art in the area, including a two-part workshop hosted by muralists (and PPP co-founders) Sylvia Annelise Hecht and Jo Ellen Burke.

Applications are open until Friday, July 28, and no previous mural experience is required. After the completion of the two mural workshops, participants are immediately able to be employed as mural artists for other projects and they will be added to the PPP database of local muralists. Anyone interested in participating can register online here: docs.google.com.

The cost for the experience is $250, however, scholarships are available, as well as a partial payment option. Applicants’ ability to pay does NOT affect their acceptance to the program. Donations to the PPP fund can also be made through their GoFundMe for scholarships and materials for future murals.

Last year’s mural was painted in June on the side of a storage unit located at 1st Avenue Storage Unit, depicting a sunny meadow with silhouettes of people enjoying activities like biking, playing music, running, and canoeing.

The PPP was established in 2022 in the hopes of bringing more public art into the Chippewa Valley. The murals are meant to reflect the community and provoke enthusiasm for local art, which the founders are excited about continuing this year.
