Logan Toftness, post office employee by day, writer, director, and producer of plays by night, has written Electric Sun, to be shown at The Grand Theatre from August 10-11 at 7:30pm and August 12 at 1pm.

A speculative fiction piece about environmental disaster, Electric Sun revolves around Mel and Kip warding off the darkness before it consumes them.

“It explores the idea of how far is too far to go for survival, or if there is such a thing,” Toftness said. “There are quite a few themes surrounding the character's relationships with survival and death, protection and hope, the things that scare us, and their relationships with each other and the environment.”

LOGAN TOFTNESS

WRITER OF "ELECTRIC SUN"

Toftness wrote the play in 2016 around the same time she founded Speck of Dust Theatre Company, the producer of Electric Sun. Though Toftness had no grand purpose as the inspiration behind Electric Sun, it certainly delves into important ideas regarding humanity’s real-world relationship and impact with planet Earth, all while managing a laugh or two for the audience.

“I sometimes think people shy away from the hard or dark stuff when they choose how to spend their Friday night,” Toftness said. “I hope people who choose to come to this play feel the value in telling stories like this one.”

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students. Don’t miss seeing Electric Sun, a Speck of Dust Theatre Company production that will surely inspire deep intrigue surrounding humanity and Earth.
